What to do When you Lose your Job!

Jun 17, 2021

This week I interview a good friend of mine, David Priddy, about What to do When, NOT IF, you lose your job!

David  highlights some of the decisions and PLAN of how he relied on his Network of Industry Contacts to help him find a job when he was unexpectedly cut loose from an engineering firm that he had worked for for 19 years!

Almost every engineer who has been in the market for more than 20 years has lost a job or been "cut loose" or RIF'd at one time or another.

It is called Consulting Engineering!  It happens to almost everyone!

Heck, I have been cut, fired, hired & fired in one day, resigned under pressure, transferred, and RIF'd during my career.

That said, I have also been hired a few dozen times, promoted, put in charge, lead branch offices, won projects, started two companies, and had fun and served clients along the way!

David shares his TIPS on how to make the transition and land a new job in Mid-career.

These job search tips include:

1- Take Stock and process the loss emotionally.

2- Make a Job Search Plan

3- Develop a list of Friends, colleagues and Family that could put in a good word for you.

4- Go to Work on your job Search Everyday! Plan your Work & Work your Plan!

5- Consistently build friendships and relationships each day of your career and try to add value to everyone you come in contact with.
